Fearfully & Wonderfully made... with a purpose!

Ephesians 2:10 tells us: “for we are His workmanship,  created in Christ Jesus for good works,  which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them”.

I have thought about that verse so much over the years and in my studies, I am often taken back to it.

God is telling us here that He has something for each of us. I love to picture Him creating each one of us, individually, lovingly, purposefully.

Psalm 139: 13 – 16 says that “You formed me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

God has given each of us gifts and talents. He did not mass produce us ~ each and every hair on our head has been counted (Luke 12:7).

So what are we to do with this? For me, I want to be able to stand before Him and have Him say to me: “well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21) I want to fulfill the purpose that He made for me specifically ~ I desperately want to honor Him with my life and allow Him to touch people in my world through me.

Do you long to honor Him? Do you long to have others look at you and not see you, but see Jesus shining through you?

If you can’t seem to find your calling, your footing, what He wants for you to do in this world, begin here: do what He has put in front of you to do each day.

Are you a wife, a mom? Those are your biggest mission field.

Do you work outside of your home? If so, do the people who you rub shoulders with every day know that there is something different about the way you go about your day? Is Jesus being seen through you?

Philippians 1:6 tells us “He who began a good work in you will see it through to completion.”

My husband and I have recently become grandparents for the first time. We have the most adorable little grandson and sweetest granddaughter this side of heaven. I remember holding my own babies in my arms and being overwhelmed at the intricacies of how they were made, but I was too overwhelmed as a mom of three babies under the age of 4 to really appreciate it for very long.

Now, holding my grandchildren, the babies MY babies gave birth to, I am overwhelmed again at the miracle of birth.

Just as we have prayed for our children since birth and now our grandchildren, we ask God every day to lead them to what He has planned for their lives.

As I am rocking them, singing to, playing with them; as I breathe them then and hold them close, I am reminded of our great God. The God of the universe who created everything and everyone and holds it together in His majestic hands (Colossians 1:17)

And I am reminded that these little ones, just like each of you have something to offer as you walk on this earth, something that God Himself set in you.

I pray that you find your gifting and use it to glorify Jesus in all that you do.
